Personal Belongings Insurance for Students & Student Nurses
(underwritten by Norwich Union Insurance Ltd)

A special Scheme recommended at Colleges throughout Great Britain since 1952 Starting from 26.00 for 3500 cover (including 1000 of Landlords/College Property)
 

The policy is a legal document and defines the cover in precise terms. Read it fully on receipt: you may then, if dissatisfied, withdraw your application without cost within 10 days [if no claim has been made in the meantime]. This form provides an outline of cover and the main exclusions. Specimen policy available on request. NO REFUND OF PREMIUMS AVAILABLE AFTER SIX MONTHS ON COVER.

BASIC COVER - for personal belongings starting at 2,500, plus College/ Landlord’s property in your rooms up to 1,000, against Fire, Theft following visible forcible and violent entry, Storm and Flood within student lodging or other temporary place of residence in the UK, including your parents’ home. The following categories are limited to the single article limit shown below:

  1. Computers
  2. Hi-Fi equipment
  3. Photographic equipment, video cameras and camcorders
  4. Jewellery, watches and valuables
  5. Audio and video discs, records, cassettes.
You will be responsible for the first 30, rising to 50 in Areas 4, 5, 6, 7 & 8 of every claim . Cash, skis [including sticks and bindings], and contact lenses are excluded. Also damage to any property or appliance caused by or resulting from the failure of that property or appliance or any part of it [whether belonging to the Insured or not] correctly to recognise or respond to any date whether occurring before during or after the year 2000 is excluded. The sum insured under this Policy is reduced to 750 if the Insured is not in residence during the normal college vacations. The basic premium also includes: Personal & Occupier’s Liability at Common Law up to 1,000,000 for damage due to your negligence as a private individual (excluding liability connected with dangerous dogs or the HIV virus). Personal Accident cover up to 1,500 for loss of limbs, or death, as a result of injury by thieves in your room, or as a fare-paying passenger on public transport or as a pedestrian involved in a motor accident. Funeral Expenses up to 1,000 following the accidental death of either parent. Homeline Cover a special service giving 24 hour access to free legal advice and domestic repair contractors.

AREA 8 - 2000 of cover only, excluding Landlord’s property . Cover applies to the risk address in term-time only and to property removed to your parents’ home during vacations.

OPTIONAL EXTRAS [available only with BASIC policy] NOT AVAILABLE FOR AREA 8 ALL RISKS [for valuable items]. List any items such as jewellery, watches, cameras, etc. to be insured separately for Accidental Loss and Damage as well as Fire and Theft, anywhere in the UK. The maximum cover allowed overall is 2,500 with a single item limit of 500. Contact lenses, spectacles, records, tapes, CDs and Mobile Telephones cannot be insured under this section. You will be responsible for the first 30, rising to 50 in Areas 4, 5, 6, & 7 of any claim. Theft from vehicles is excluded. Items should be insured for their replacement cost, or current value if over 2 years old.

COMPUTERS Please write a description of the items you wish to insure. Work out the total cover you will require in the box opposite and then enter the premium in the Premium box. This cover is for Accidental Loss and Damage as well as Fire and Theft anywhere in the UK. Maximum cover available 5000. Single item limit 2500. Computer accessories - maximum cover available 250.

PEDAL CYCLE We can cover theft or damage caused by attempted theft of a bicycle [provided it is locked to an immovable object or contained within a locked building] anywhere in the UK. You will be responsible for the first 30, rising to 50 if the loss occurs in Areas 4, 5, 6 & 7 of every claim. The maximum sum insured is 400. The bicycle should be insured at its current value, including accessories.

CLAIMS SETTLEMENT - Provided the sums insured are adequate, claims will be settled on a New for Old basis by replacement where possible for items purchased new and less than two years old. The only exceptions are clothing, household linen and pedal cycles where a deduction will be made for wear and tear. If a cash settlement is requested this will be dealt with on a current value basis allowing for depreciation.

PLEASE NOTE - Insurers and their agents share information with each other to prevent fraudulent claims and for underwriting purposes via the Claims and Underwriting Exchange Register, operated by Insurance Database Services Ltd. A list of participants is available on request. In dealing with your application this register may be searched. In the event of a claim, the information you supply on this form and the claim form, together with other information relating to the claim, will be put on the register and made available to participants.

I also agree that, in response to any searches you may make in connection with this application or any claim, IDS Ltd may supply information it has received from other insurers about other claims I have made. I declare that this proposal shall form the basis of the contract between me and the insurer and I will accept and abide by the terms of the policy to be issued. For the major part of the 12 months to be covered by this insurance, I expect to be a student. By submitting this form I am confirming my agreement to the terms and conditions of this form and to details within. We reserve the right to ask for special terms or decline this proposal.
